Medications and Medication Counseling at Salon Uusi Apteekki

Welcome to our pharmacy in the center of Salo, at Hämeentie K-Citymarket!

We offer you expert and friendly service in both medication and other pharmacy-related matters. Our professionals advise you on the safe use of medications and provide instructions for their storage and combination with other medications. We are here to help you!

When you need prescription medications, you can smoothly handle your affairs with us by taking a number. Our pharmacy's automated storage system takes care of stocking, storing, and picking prescription medications, freeing our staff to serve you. Our pharmaceutical staff will provide you with up-to-date information on the medications prescribed to you. We are also happy to advise on matters related to Kela compensation.

Automated Dose Dispensing

Make daily life easier with automated dose dispensing! Automated dose dispensing is suitable for individuals whose ongoing medication treatment involves multiple medications. The dose dispensing service supports the implementation of medication therapy.

Before starting dose dispensing, our pharmacy checks the customer's overall medication. This improves both the safety of medication therapy and saves on medication costs.

When you choose automated dose dispensing,

  • You receive two weeks' worth of medications packed in dose pouches. The medications are dated and marked with the time of day on each single-dose pouch.
  • The likelihood of medication administration errors is significantly reduced.

So contact us and visit our pharmacy, and we will be happy to tell you more about the dose dispensing service.

Prescription Renewal and Acting on Behalf

The staff at Salon Uusi Apteekki can make a prescription renewal request on your behalf and forward it to your health station. You can also leave a renewal request at your own health station or through the omakanta.fi service.

If you need to purchase medications or renew a prescription on behalf of someone else, such as your child, spouse, or another person, that is also possible. In these cases, you will need the person you are assisting's Kela card, patient instructions, or a printed summary. You can also create a Pharmacy Proxy authorization through the suomi.fi service. The authorization is valid throughout Finland. When using the power of attorney, you must prove your identity with a passport, identity card, or driving license.

Medication Waste

We accept expired and unused household medications free of charge. We dispose of all medication waste as hazardous waste.

Unused medications are not reimbursed to customers because they cannot be resold. This practice is based on the Medicines Act and regulatory guidelines.

Return medication waste as follows (instructions by the Finnish Association of Pharmacists, the Association of Finnish Local and Regional Authorities, and the Waste Management Association):

  • Remove any patient information markings (such as instruction labels) from medication packaging.
  • Bring medications to the pharmacy in a clear, sealed plastic bag.
  • Remove tablets and capsules from their original packaging. Tablets and capsules in blister packs do not need to be removed from their packaging. Take empty glass jars to glass recycling and empty plastic jars to the waste bin.
  • Return liquid substances in their original packaging.
  • Return iodine tablets and other iodine-containing medications always in a separate clear plastic bag in their original packaging. Iodine-containing products include Jodix tablets, and Betadine and Iodosorb products.
  • Return mercury-containing thermometers separately from medication waste. Enclose broken mercury thermometers in, for example, a sealed glass jar.
  • Return syringes and needles separately from medication waste. Pack them in a penetration-resistant package, such as an empty plastic bottle or glass jar.
  • The pharmacy accepts only medication waste, mercury-containing thermometers, and syringes and needles. The pharmacy does not accept other wastes (e.g., chemicals, hairspray bottles, battery-operated thermometers, or other electronic devices, batteries, etc.).
